External RFID tag for Animal .
EID TAG
This generation of Tamperproof EID( Electronic Identification ) Button Tag is ISO compliant and has a unique design that provides the ultimate in usability, security and retention. The single use ear tag features a ridged plastic design with a Tamperproof cap. Transponder numbers are laser marked in a circular format on the edge of the tag.
Reusable EID tags can be reused to lower the per animal cost of EID. They are also ISO compliant.
Full Duplex Technology (FDX) is utilized with the Lightweight EID tag. FDX is a design priciple whereby the return signal initiates as soon as the beginning of the interrogation signal is received and the smoothing capacitor in the transponder has been charged. The return signal is received repetitively and without interruption for as long as a continuous interrogation signal is maintained.
Construction
The tamperproof tag is injection molded Polyurethane female with a plastic injection molded tamperproof cap. The hard cap of the tag provides the highest degree of security available, as any attempt to remove the male tag from the female would cause the tag components to break, rendering them unusable.

Chips in cattle to detect insurance frauds
Article from the Hindu Business line. 21 Oct 2007
Gujarat to implant tamper-proof RFID tags on 1.5 lakh cattle soon.
Rahul Wadke
Mumbai, Oct 21
The humble bullock may be at the heart of rural economy. But for bankers and general insurance companies, it has been a nightmare. For the former, the challenge has been to prevent the security of a pair of bullocks being offered to succession of banks for fresh loans. For managers in the insurance industry, it is a case of how to prevent bogus insurance claims.
The State Government would soon be implanting 1.5 lakh cattle with these chips to prevent fraudulent applications for loans or claims against cattle insurance policies. The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) in Gujarat would be permanently injecting the microchips in the cavity behind the ear of cows and buffaloes.
Mr Ashwin Thakkar, Divisional Manager, Oriental Insurance Company Ltd, Rajkot, said that RFID tags are going to help in reducing fraudulent cattle insurance claims. The currently used external plastic tags are easily tampered and can be transferred to other cattle, he said. The DRDA would be subsidising the cost of these tags, he added.
Mr Thakkar said that in many instances, local veterinary officer, in cahoots with village cooperative, would insure 100 cattle but never tag the animals and the farmers would claim insurance for their dead cattle according to their convenience, he said.
Mr V.V. Vaja, Director of DRDA for Kheda district, said that the pilot programme has proved that the tags are compatible with the tissues of the cattle. They are ISO compliant and do not have any negative effect on the cattle. The backend software support for the chips is also being created. It will host all the data on the cattle including milk yield, hereditary diseases, insemination and pedigree, he said.

RFID look cool in this commercial
Just watch this video below, it’s a really cool IBM commercial on RFID. A pretty lady sitting at a help desk in the middle of a deserted road forces a cargo vehicle to stop. The driver jumps out of the vehicle and questions the lady as to what she was doing in the middle of the road. She informs him in a confident manner that he had lost his way out and when he asks how she knew about it, the lady at the help desk replies that the RFID tags on the cargo informed her that the vehicle had lost its way.
The driver gets back into the truck and tells his accomplice that the boxes told her that they had lost their way. The accomplice replies that ‘May be the boxes should drive’ and he is probably right since the boxes seemed better informed than the driver but alas boxes cannot do that. It’s a really nice commercial which highlights the power of RFID technology in performing the function of tracking assets. You will enjoy it for sure.

IBM RFID Clipped tag
The IBM clipped tag technology allows consumers to tear off the antenna of an RFID tag, thereby significantly reducing the tag’s read range to just a few inches. This makes it extremely difficult to read tags within an individual’s personal space without being noticeable. The clipped tag gives consumers the ability to simply “opt out” and protect their privacy. The chip, however, retains full functionality otherwise. This enhances consumer privacy while maintaining the benefits of the technology, such as product authentication or recalls.
